John’s Island electrocution victim identified

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – A woman who was killed in an electrocution has now been identified by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.

Emma Lopez-Garcia, 31, of North Charleston, died Friday morning as a result of an electrocution injury suffered while working at a landscaping site between Bear Swamp Road and Saint Hubert Way on Johns Island.

Charleston County deputies said they responded to the area around 8:30 that morning following reports of two people being electrocuted while working.

One of them was standing on a metal ladder trimming trees while the other was holding it steady. While trimming trees, the first victim came in contact with electrical wires overhead.

Both were taken to MUSC for treatment.

Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal says Lopez-Garcia was pronounced dead at the hospital just after 9:30 the same morning.

There has been no word on the condition of the second injured person.
